There is often little time before a morning meeting or train. Breakfast at the hotel removes one decision: where to eat before leaving and whether you will have time to return for your bags.

Check the rate first

An overnight booking and a 12-hour booking have different conditions. Meals under the short-stay rate are agreed separately. Ask reception whether breakfast is included and what it costs if it is not.

Include every guest in the booking. For children, confirm meal arrangements for their age; for two colleagues, check what the room price includes. Get the answer with your booking confirmation.

If you need to leave before breakfast

Check serving times at your chosen hotel against your departure time. “Breakfast included” does not mean it is available at any hour.

If your taxi is booked very early, mention this before arrival and ask about possible alternatives. Do not assume that an early breakfast or takeaway food is available without confirmation.

Children and dietary preferences

If you cannot eat certain foods, ask what a particular breakfast contains rather than relying on a general description. Check the dishes and drinks offered and whether your requirements can be accommodated.

The same applies when travelling with children. If your child needs particular food, ask whether a suitable option is available. Discuss menus and substitutions directly with the hotel where you will stay.

Choose around your morning route. If you need to reach an exhibition for opening or catch a particular train, calculate the journey to the actual entrance or station. Allow time to eat, rather than leaving only a few minutes between packing and the taxi.
